XPC-FR1 FEKT XPC-FR1 Acad. year 2022/2023 Winter semester 3 credits
The seminars will put a great emphasis on communicative competence (pronunciation, speaking, reading and writing), and acquiring the basic knowledge of French grammar and vocabulary. Units 1-4 of the textbook Inspire 1 will be covered during the semester.

Subject specific learning outcomes and competences
By the end of the course, students will be equipped with basic knowledge of French grammar and lexis and thus able to understand and take part in simple conversations as well as understand and write short and simple texts on familiar topics immediately related to their personal and/or professional environment and/or interests.
Learning objectives
The aim of the French for Beginners 1 course is to provide an introduction to the French language to students with no previous knowledge of French. The course will cover basic grammatical structures and lexis on A1 level of CEFR in order to foster communicative competence in everyday situations, such as work, travel, and study.

6. Verbs: Conjugation of verbs of the 1st class (-ER) in the present tense + verb phrases
7. Practical French: Au café/Au restaurant

Progress assessment
In order to successfully complete the course students have to pass a written test covering the grammar and vocabulary studied during the semester (based on Inspire 1 - Unités 1-4). The passing grade is 50 %. Only students complying with the attendance rules will be allowed to take the test.
Teaching methods and criteria
The work in seminars relies on a task-based, skills-orientated and communicative approach combining a wide range of activities (speaking, role-play, grammar drills, work with audio-visual materials) and on students' independent home preparation.
Controlled instruction
Active participation in seminars is required. Students cannot miss more than 3 seminars.
