What do I bring to enrolment?
Have you met all the admission requirements? Congratulations! It's only by enrolling that you become a regular student of the FIT. To be able to enrol, you must provide proof of:
- identity card (other identity document, passport);
- officially authenticated copy of your school-leaving certificate. This document can be submitted in electronic form via the electronic application form or in paper form to the FIT BUT Study Department after authorized conversion of the document. You cannot be enrolled without providing a proof of secondary education nostrification clause.
We will inform you in e-application and by letters.
-
Enrolment in June
During enrolment you will also meet with representatives of the Students' Union who will give you the FIT Freshmen Handbook (available only in Czech). We recommend reading it. Occupational Health and Safety training and Fire Protection training, which are compulsory, will take place online via the BUT IS.
-
Additional dates
Additional enrolment dates will take place in July and September. Detailed information will be communicated by messages in the e-application and on the faculty's website for applicants.
After enrolment
-
BUT Information System
After your admission, you can access the personal number, initial password and a birth code for foreigners. Using this password, personal number or the birth code, you can activate your BUT account by setting a so called BUTPassword. Personal number and BUTPassword are going to be used for the school-wide agendas.
-
FIT Information System
The Faculty has its own information system (WIS) accessible using the faculty account. A summary on when to use which account is provided in the document on accounts; the homepage of the information system contains a link to the faculty login and password. The access to the FIT IS is granted after the enrollements are processed, which might take a while. You are not going to use this IS for day to day study agendas.
-
Request for Accomodation
Students are supposed to book an accommodation on-line by completing the Request for Accommodation. It is extremely important to apply for accommodation well in advance. Furhtermore, students with a visa obligation have to attach confirmation on accommodation to their visa application - the confirmation will be sent to student via email and to the particular embassy via data box after the delivery of all the visa application materials. For detailed information about the application (including deadlines), please refer to the ACS pages.
-
Student Identity Card
Another important step is to order a student identity card. On this page you can upload your photograph and select whether you wish to obtain a BUT student identity card or an ISIC card at a reduced price. If you order your card in time (ideally by the end of July), you will receive it at the beginning of September (note: Dopravní podnik města Brna requires ISIC card or online verification of student status).
Before the beginning of teaching
-
Courses
You will be automatically entrolled into all compulsory courses. Before the semester starts, you can look over the courses offered in the summer semester and, if you want, register elective courses. Registration for elective courses starts in the middle of September and ends at the end of the first week of the semester.
In addition to compulsory courses, IKK will be automatically enrolled for 0 credits. However, it is not a traditional elective course, but registration for circular consultations, which are meetings between first-year students and academics who will provide them with valuable advice and information needed at the beginning and throughout their studies. In the IKK virtual course, students register in circles of 20, each completing a minimum of three one-hour consultations with an academic.

Collecting your BUT Student Identity Card
As a rule, classes in the winter semester begin the last but one week in September (in 2024 this will be the week beginning Monday 16 September); the exact date is determined by the Academic Calendar. You can visit the faculty and collect your BUT student identity card or ISIC starting from approximately the first week in September (the exact date and instructions will be made available in the Study News). Additional Information
Note for students who are not new at BUT
Students who have studied at BUT before need not (and in fact cannot) set their BUTpassword. The password they used most recently remains valid. In addition, their previous faculty account is only reactivated. If a student has a student identity card (from any faculty), he/she need not order a new card. The identity card is activated at the time of enrolment; for the identity card to be used as proof of study, it is necessary to have the validation stamp glued to it at the Study Department. The ISIC validation stamp should be ordered at the BUT portal, whereas the BUT validation stamp can be collected in person. The BUT stamp can also be used to validate ISIC, thus reducing it to a BUT card.
