French for pre-intermediate
XPC-FR3 FEKT XPC-FR3 Acad. year 2025/2026 Winter semester 3 credits
The course will focus on developing communication skills, including pronunciation, oral interaction, listening, reading, and writing, as well as French grammar and vocabulary. The study materials used in the course will be from Inspire 1 and Inspire 2 textbooks (Units 1-6), and will be integrated with French culture.
The course will cover the following topics:
Grammar: the past tense (le passé composé and le passé récent), the use of the pronoun 'y', gradation of adjectives, question forms, the expression of advice and necessity, the present continuous (être en train de...), frequency adverbs, relative pronouns, the future tense (le futur simple), personal pronouns in object use (COD), l'imparfait.
Vocabulary: study/work, living/housing, human body and health problems, character, family and interpersonal relationships

Learning objectives
The course is primarily intended for students who successfully finished XPC-FR2. The aim of the course is to build on the already acquired linguistic competences corresponding to approximately A1 level and to extend the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary to A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, so that the graduates of the course have adequate linguistic resources to cope with common communication situations when travelling, studying or working.
The students will have a good command of grammatical structures and vocabulary at A1/A2 level and will be able to understand and respond appropriately to the most common phrases of French speakers. They will also be able to read short simple texts and find specific information in them (menus, brochures, advertisements, short articles, etc.).
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
A1 or French for Beginners 2.
Progress assessment
The written end-of-course test covers the vocabulary and grammar taught during the semester. To pass the test, a minimum score of 50% is required.
Students must actively participate in at least 75% of the seminars, with a maximum of three absences.
