Introduction into GIS problems, definitions and divisions of GIS. Data GIS models, phases of formation, typology of GIS, GIS managing data structures.
Definition, collection and organisation of graphical data. Procedure within the formation of a GIS project. Planning of geographical technologies. Geographical analyses, spatial questions, questions on mapping objects and attribute tables. Characteristics of programming products of firms Intergraph, Autodesk, Bentley, ESRI. Introduction into problems of modelling over GIS platform. Basic tasks – transport optimisation, goods delivery, optimal routes, region attendance, crisis management, application of GPS systems in transport etc.
New trends of GIS development. The connection of GIS and the Internet. Usage of GIS within public authorities. Usage of GIS for certification of line constructions.
Expert systems and its usage within railway transport.

Learning objectives

The objective of the subject is to introduce students to the problems of database systems and geographical information systems and to practise acquires knowledge and skills.
A student acquires skills in database systems and geographical information systems.

Management of transport in GIS, solving the given example. 12. Sample data collection in mobile GIS. 13. Credit test.
