Abstract

One of the basic requirements for IPv6 have been an auto-configuration support for end nodes. The original idea was based on the vision that an IPv6 device connects to the network and everything it need to configure is automatic, without any further interaction required on the client side. Although, at the time of the original design of IPv6 networks, DHCP has been commonly used, the creators decided to configure hosts differently. This article describes the practical experience with autoconfiguration in access networks.
