Mentally challenged as design principles and models for their applications

Touch devices (tablet computers andsmart-phones) have become common part of our life style. We cannot alsooverlook the huge usage of these devices in special education especially inwork with mentally challenged individuals (called "the revolution of specialpedagogy"). Since 2012 inspired by the success of touch devices in specialeducation we have established and led the IT therapy program for mentallychallenged (called simply "computer therapy" and using touch devices at most). As partof this therapy program we have conducted series of usability testing withfocus to identify the most usability HW/SW flaws of tablet devices. Based onour usability testing and usability inspection findings we have proposed 14basic HW/SW design principles (extension and redefinition of previouslyproposed 10 simple design principles) which should be respected in"usable/accessible" design and development of application formentally challenged. Some of these principles were already implemented in ourpractical framework which we used to develop new more usable applications.

Tablety se staly součástí našeho běžného života. Od roku 2012, inspirování úspěchem těchto dotykových zařízení ve speciální pedagogice, jsme vytvořili a zavedli IT terapii pro mentálně postižené. V tomto článku také prezentujeme jednu z našich závěrečných studií z této dlouhodobé terapie s 12 účastníky. Na základě získaných poznatků z této studie zde předkládáme 14 SW/HW návrhových principů (jako revizi a rozšíření námi již dříve uvedených 10 stručných principů), které mají být obecně respektovány a uplatněny při návrhu a vývoji každé dobře použitelné, přístupné aplikace pro mentálně postižené. Některé z těchto principů jsou také použitelné jako návrhové vzory nebo modely při vývoji softwaru a některé z nich byly také implementovány při vývoji našeho frameworku a z něho odvozených našich nových lépe použitelných aplikací.
