Practical English 2

The English language course focuses on the development of reading, listening, speaking and writing skills with an emphasis on complex language resources and vocabulary at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It is based on the teaching materials and requirements of the international First Certificate in English (FCE) examination. The course builds on Practical English 1 (BPC-PA1). The preferred approaches and methods include the communicative and task-based approaches using multimedia teaching resources.

Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to develop all language competences necessary for fluent and independent use of the general English language at B2+ CEFR level in professional and social situations as a basis for further studies of English for electrical engineering, IT and other branches of science and technology.
The student uses the English language as an independent user at B2 CEFR level. He/she is able to list sport disciplines and discuss them in different social contexts, discusses the problems of tourism and its influence on the particular region, expresses his/her opinions on media, especially the Internet and other electronic media and their roles in the society, gives an account of different environmental problems and explains them in different contexts, describes essential features of the scientific and technological development and its influence on lifestyle, assesses the relationships between social problems and crime, applies the knowledge of formal style in written communication, uses the grammatical structures according to the requirements of the given level and the course syllabus.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Knowledge of English language at B1 - B2 SERR level. The student has successfully completed the course Practical English 1 (BPC-PA1).

Progress assessment
75% attendance and active participation at classes, fulfilment of given assignments including tests during the semester.
A semester test (max. 40 points, min. 24 pts, the test may be repeated only once).
An examination: listening (max. 30 pts, min. 15 pts), reading (max. 30 pts, min. 15pts).
The content and forms of instruction in the evaluated course are specified by a regulation issued by the lecturer responsible for the course and updated for every academic year.
