The popularity of Ethernet as an industrial communication bus isconstantly increasing. However the original concept of the Ethernet, which was developed during seventies of the last century ascommunication technology for "office treatment," has to face someissues specific for industrial applications. The concept of theEthernet proved to be very successful and encountered issues are beingaddressed by modifications and extensions of the most popular 10/100BaseT standard.
This paper describes some issues, which have to be addressed whendeveloping a sensor with embedded Ethernet interface. The contributiondiscusses an industrial grade Ethernet connector, suitable power methodand some other topics. An example of such developed sensors isdescribed.
