Automatic generation of FEM models of human skull and other parts of skeleton from CT data
CT, MR, FEM, meshing, skeleton, skull
Many biomechanics solutions are done using 3D FEM. For this reason itis necessary to have 3D FEM model of a tissue. Creating 3D FEM modelsfrom CT data can be done by one of the following two methods. The firstmethod is based on vectorisation of tissues boundary by the CT data.Planar cross section curves are formed and imported to FEM system. There is made a 3D-vector model of the tissue by the curves and splinesurfaces. Finally using FEM system tools we make FEM model of thetissue from its 3D vector model. The second method is based on making3D FEM model of the tissue directly from the CT data. This articledeals especially with this second method. There are enclosed also someresults as an example, FEM models of skull, pelvis, jaw, etc.
