Abstract
This article describes the architecture of the EMU10k1 signal processor, its instruction set, programming methods and the interface with other devices connected to sound cards from the SoundBlaster Live! series. The application programming interface (API) of GNU/Linux operating system is mentioned too. A way of implementing FIR filters on EMU10k1 by direct convolution with FIR coefficients is analyzed on these grounds. Primarily the maximal usable impulse response length, sampling rate, signal-to-noise ratio and the overall computation time (latency) are considered here.
