New Model for OS Kernel Design
operating system, modeling, OS kernel, modularity, GNU/Linux
Contemporary operating systems are trying to offer as much flexibilityas possible. But still they are far from being perfect. Purpose of thisarticle is to offer idea of another way how to achieve "maximumflexibility" (besides of other gains). Firstly we will speak aboutactual possibilities touching on their positives and negatives. Thenactual proposals for improvements will be explored. Suggested changesare based on viewing OS kernel as a jigsaw puzzle. Consisting of manysmall parts with well defined shape, we can assemble any final imagethe user can request. Let try to transform OS kernel to such pieces andexplore possibilities we
can obtain. This model is not too far fromcurrent modular systems but using fully modular system means newpossibilities and perspectives.
