Abstract

This paper deals with a compression of grayscale-image data by means of cellular
automata (CA). This approach splits the input image up to a number of smaller
parts: one of these parts becomes the initial state of the CA and during its
development the comparison between the actual state of the CA and the next part
of the image is performed. The Galois field theory is used to represent the state
values and to describe the operations of the CA.
