Abstract

This article looks at the Semantic Web from the viewpoint of a database system.
We compare the Semantic Web to an object-oriented dtaabase, look at the concepts
shared by these two and give a formal definition of an OODB vocabulary on top of
the Resource Description Framework (RDF). This lays foundations for further
extensions of the OODB data model in the direction of greater flexibility and
shows that development of the Semantic Web could be inspired by OODBs in
areal like access control or versioning.
