Oracleboros: Reusing Hyperledger Fabric Mechanisms to Provide Oracle Functionality
Hyperledger Fabric, blockchain, oracle, decentralized oracle network, periodic transactions, time, data retention
We propose an extension to Hyperledger Fabric that allows smart contract methods to be called periodically at certain intervals, functionality commonly provided by oracles or other external systems. The proposal utilizes features and mechanisms present in Hyperledger Fabric to avoid introducing new external dependencies in the form of such supporting services. We discuss the constraints under which our proposal is applicable and outline the directions for future work which could address some of the proposal shortcomings; primarily, making it more flexible and general. Finally, we discuss the relationship between blockchains and oracles, with focus on hybridization and dual-use of nodes.
