Security Technology Research and Development

The STRaDe research group is part of the Department of Intelligent Systems at the Faculty of Information Technology, Brno University of Technology. Our main focus is on the research and development of security technologies, including both software and hardware. A key area of our research is biometrics, where we specialize in a wide range of technologies such as fingerprint, iris, and retina scanning and recognition, 3D face and hand recognition, vein recognition, and liveness detection of biometric elements. In hardware, we focus on the development of various sensor devices.

In addition to biometrics, we are also involved in the development and application of advanced AI systems for image processing. We have extensive experience in neural network acceleration and other optimizations for the use of artificial intelligence in embedded and IoT systems. In the past, we have also worked on robotics-related topics, which we have gradually reduced in order to fully concentrate on our main research areas.

Biometric Systems Laboratory

For biometrics research, our lab is equipped with a wide range of devices, including fingerprint sensors, facial recognition systems, iris scanners, and many other sensors. In the lab, we focus on both testing new devices and developing algorithms for spoof and liveness detection. In 2024, the lab's computing technology has been upgraded to increase our technical capabilities for new research, including in the field of AI.
