Language is the basic linking element of any nation and its territorial dialects are an important part of regional identity. The PhD topic, proposed by specialists in ASR (BUT), dialectology (ÚJČ) and interactive mapping (UPOL), focuses on the adaptation of existing technologies and development of new procedures for automatic processing, preservation, documentation and presentation of the dialects of the Czech language. The primary goal is to create a powerful ASR system usable by dialectologists, based on large pre-trained models, datasets of a specific language and/or related languages, and small amounts of data from target dialect areas.
